I don't blame you, it would be a nice pattern to have. Without stuff like that it really isn't worth maxxing out Blacksmithing beyond getting all your socket options opened up.
By contrast, Engineering continues to be one of my favorite professions and it's even harder to level up. Plenty of low-hanging patterns that are just FUN to make.
